The Liv Kit was created to give women a better way to detect changes during their monthly breast self-exam Each woman's breasts are different and it is normal for them to change in appearance and feel. They can be affected by the menstrual cycle, age, pregnancy, the menopause and taking the contraceptive pill. For example, women having periods may have lumpy, tender breasts just before their period and soft breasts immediately afterwards. After the menopause, breasts may feel softer and less lumpy. These changes are normal. Changes, which may not be normal, are:
- change in size of your breasts (after puberty is complete)
- changes in the shape of your breast, e.g. flattening or swelling
- dimpling of the skin (skin looks like the texture of orange peel)
- change in the position of the nipple, e.g. newly inverted (turned in) nipples
- any discharge from the nipple(unless you are breastfeeding and it's milky discharge)
- a rash or crusting on the nipple or surrounding area
- swelling or a lump in the breast or armpit
- constant pain in part of the breast or armpit Remember, you are looking and feeling for any changes in your breasts that are unusual for you.
