The cause of prostate cancer is unknown although the following factors may increase the likelihood of it developing: - Men with a close relative who have or had prostate cancer are at a slightly higher risk
- Afro-Caribbean and Afro-American men may be at a higher risk
- Meat eating - vegetarians are half as likely to get prostate cancer than meat eaters
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) is measured with a simple blood test and indicates prostate activity. The level can be raised if the prostate is infected, enlarged or cancerous. An abnormal examination or a high blood test indicates the need for further investigation by a Urologist. |
