The man’s sperm count probably has the greatest affect on male infertility. The following factors can reduce sperm count: - Illnesses, e.g. mumps;
- Frequency of ejaculation - to improve the quantity and quality of the sperm, it is advisable to abstain from ejaculation for a number of days before the woman’s fertile period;
- Sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia
Other factors that may cause male infertility could be: - A physical obstruction somewhere within the male reproductive system;
- The failure to achieve and maintain an erection (impotence) could make sexual intercourse difficult or indeed impossible;
- Alcohol, smoking and drugs;
- Working environment, such as radiation or dangerous chemicals.
