The prostate is a small gland, about the size of a walnut, situated at the base of the bladder and it is only found in men. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer amongst men, although it is rarely found in men under 45. The incidence increases with age and it is quite common in men over 80. It is a serious disease that is often slow to develop. It can grow so slowly that that it may never need treatment and may not cause symptoms. In others, usually younger men, it can cause more symptoms and spread outside the prostate, particularly to the bones. |
