The following are the main types of treatment, age, general health and stage of the cancer: - “Watchful waiting” - no treatment, but regular PSA tests unless the condition worsens
- Prostatectomy - the whole prostate is removed with a follow-up of regular PSA tests
- Radiotherapy - x-rays are used to try to kill the cancer cells
- Hormone therapy - lowering the level of testosterone can shrink the cancer or prevent it from growing
